Geochemical characterisation & mine waste management assessment
- Client Name
- Nova Minerals
- Location
- Anchorage, Alaska, USA

Challenge
The Estelle Gold Trend comprises 450 sq. km of unpatented mining claims on State of Alaska Public Lands. Nova Minerals is currently exploring several deposits and identifying prospects along the聽mineralised聽corridor.
As the project approaches the Feasibility Study/NI 43-101 stage, initial聽characterisation聽of mine wastes and mine water quality is necessary to develop strategies for management that are protective of the environment.聽Characterisation聽includes physical characteristics, volume, and chemical / geochemcial characteristics.
Solution
SLR's role:
- Develop a sampling and analysis聽programme聽based on evaluation of site geologic conditions for preliminary geochemical聽characterisation聽that meets industry standards
- Go to the site to collect representative samples of ore and waste with site geologists
- Coordinate chemical analysis
- Evaluate results
- Recommendations for additional work
Highlights
- Established that ore and waste rock is not acid generating
- The only metal of concern identified is arsenic, which is consistent with observations in groundwater and surface water
- Waste and water management will not require extra-ordinary levels of containment and treatment
- Additional聽characterisation聽should be performed:
- Other deposits
- Kinetic Field Bin Tests
- Confirmation for less-important metals
Impact
SLR is continuing to support Nova Minerals with environmental and engineering evaluations for the Estelle Project.
