Transport & Mobility Research

Overview
SLR鈥檚 dedicated R&D team leads national and international research into how new planning techniques, mobility services and policies can increase uptake of sustainable mobility and support Vision-led Planning in the development sector.
Our collaborative R&D projects bring together international experts from consultancies, universities, municipalities, transport operators, government bodies and NGOs to develop and pilot new mobility solutions as well as inclusive and low carbon transport.
Our in-house research combines our transport planning, landscape design and grid connection teams to deliver multi-disciplinary and innovative solutions. These include mobility hubs, EV charging, innovative street designs, active travel infrastructure, stakeholder engagement and user-needs assessments.
We develop and deploy new tools and assessment methodologies to measure the wider benefits of vision-based schemes. Using new data analytics, we offer clients a deeper understanding of the drivers and mitigations of travel behaviour so that masterplans can be designed accordingly.

The R&D team has developed the market-leading Vision-led Planning Tool. This helps our clients run masterplan scenarios to validate how different placemaking and sustainable mobility measures will influence travel behaviour within a new development. Using new data analytics, it provides metrics on carbon emissions, air quality and health - as well as internal and external trip generation - which is then included in our Vision-led Transport Assessments.
