Biography

Mel is based in our Perth office, with over 18 years鈥� experience in the ecology and management of freshwater systems having worked for a variety of aquatic ecology-focussed organisations in South Australia and Victoria. Mel continued to develop her skills and knowledge of aquatic fauna and flora upon moving to Western Australia, including the Perth-metropolitan, southwest and Pilbara regions. Mel has extensive experience in fish biomonitoring, including several threatened species using a range of methodologies.

Mel has provided the lead aquatic technical expertise and management or a broad range of mining and resource industry projects. She has comprehensive understanding of environmental legislation at all levels of government and has prepared numerous reports to deliver environmental approvals. Mel has experience in coordinating with multidisciplinary environmental assessments and engaging and negotiating with a broad range of stakeholders, regulators and referral agencies.

Mel manages and coordinates ecological monitoring surveys (fish, crayfish, aquatic vertebrate fauna, water quality, macroinvertebrates, fringing vegetation zone and stream physical form) across numerous Western Australian rivers, creeks and wetlands for a number of key clients. She has strong technical skills in species-level taxonomy of a range of aquatic fauna, and the analysis of ecological data using univariate and multivariate analysis techniques.
